ICYMI: Highlights from the 2026 Syndromic Surveillance Symposium

At this year’s Syndromic Surveillance Symposium, attendees had the opportunity to explore one of CDC’s most significant data modernization efforts to date: the One CDC Data Platform (1CDP). The session, held on February 10 and presented by Andzelika Rzucidlo, offered a high‑level introduction to the platform and its potential to strengthen the future of syndromic surveillance.

A First Look at the One CDC Data Platform (1CDP)

Launched in late 2024, the One CDC Data Platform (1CDP) represents a major step forward in CDC’s Data Modernization Initiative. This session offered the public health community its first broad introduction to the platform’s structure and early capabilities—especially how it will support syndromic surveillance moving forward.

Highlights from the demo:

  • 1CDP brings together CDC programs within a centralized, secure, and scalable data environment, built on DCIPHER/HHS Protect infrastructure.
  • The platform aims to streamline data reporting, reduce duplicative processes, and provide common analytic tools across CDC programs.
  • For STLT partners, 1CDP promises:
    • Broader access to additional CDC datasets that complement ESSENCE
    • Simpler, more secure sharing of appropriately constrained data
    • Faster information access during emerging events
    • Consistent tools for analysis and visualization
    • STLT‑controlled secure enclaves that preserve jurisdictional autonomy
  • Presenters also walked through how data is stored in 1CDP, how partners can request access, and examples of tools used for data exploration and transformation.

The session offered a clear view of how NSSP’s integration into 1CDP will strengthen early warning capabilities and modernize the nation’s syndromic surveillance infrastructure.
